EX500

Hi Thor,
Back from the WERA finals at Barber Motorsports Park.  Did not go quite as well as I had hoped on Friday.  The new bike I picked up on Thursday died in my first race due to an electrical glitch.  I crashed in my next race making a pass for the lead on the last lap.  It was an amazing battle, the lead swapped 12 times between myself and another EX500 rider.  As I was not leading the points in this class and could not winn that championship I decided to take a risk and make an inside pass on one of the slower corners known as "Charlotte's Web".  Well, I got bitten when the front end washed out and I slid on my ass into the gravel.  No real damage to the body, just a few bent bits on the bike, very happy to be unhurt and not have taken out my competitor.

I had about 45 minutes to get the bike back together and re-teched before my next race.  I ran in third place until the last lap when an FZ600 that had been stalking me finally got by.  I did not have any fight left in me that day to make a move and finished fourth.

My final race was on Saturday.  I jumped out to an early lead, but found myself in another tooth and nail battle with a young rider who would just not let me win!  He rode like a man possessed, passing me in corners I did not think possible, scared me a few times.  I finally let him by and decided to let him do the work.  He was sliding both tires all over the place and I thought if he doesn't crash, I might not be able to beat him.  I was right on his ass coming off the last turn onto the front straight, tucked into his draft.  I beat him to the line by .07 of a second to take the National Clubman Championship.  It was a good end to a trying weekend!

Season results:
1 national championship
5 regional championships

Not bad for an aging roadracer on a slow bike!

Thank you for all your help this season, it is greatly appreciated.  I hope your recovery is going well.

Kris
